Hello all. I'm new here, this is my first post, and I thank you for reading it. Hope SOMEONE can help me.
I recently installed a new CODEC pack called "media player codec pack v4.1.4". Since installing it, I suddenly can't access some of my files, and I get some weird error messages. For example, if I try to open a .flv file, (which used to run beautifully in WMP) I now get an error message that says:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

I've never had an issue like this before opening these files. I'm the ADMIN on my computer, (the only person who uses it!) and I know how to check my permissions. This also goes for .FLAC files, which I used to play all of the time with WINAMP.

I've tried everything I can think of. (Right click, Properties, Security tab... all of that.) I actually can't make any changes there, no matter what the file type, but it DOES say that I have full control. I even tried to do a system restore, but for some reason, there was no restore point that I could go back to.

I've run every Malware/Anti-Virus check that I can find, cleaned the registry, OBVIOUSLY uninstalled the pack and went back to what I had... nothing. I've researched this to the point of giving up researching, and I'm really at a loss now. Anyone have any idea what might have happened?

For the record, if I open any other file type and then DRAG the .flv file into WMP, it works great. I just can't open them (or .FLAC audio) on their own.

Right click on the flv/flac, Open with -> Choose default program and select windows media player or winamp for flac.

    Same error?

You can also try Codec Tweak Tool and see if it finds any errors.
