What is the conventional wisdom regarding the best way to capture realtime 3D output--from games or other software--for eventual conversion to DVD?

I've been looking at using Fraps to capture 3D on screen as none of my hardware has video-in capabilities. Are there any major pitfalls I need to look out for given that the process will involve the technically awkward task of down converting high-res progressive material to 720x480 interlaced?

Will the conversion to 720x480 interlaced have fewer artifacts if the source video is captured at as high a quality as possible (therefore allowing extensive sampling during conversion) or if the source is captured at as close to 720x480i/29.97 as is possible?

    TIA.

You don't have to interlace. I would capture at 24fps and then convert to 720x480 with 3:2 pulldown, see www.videohelp.com/dvd#tech .
