I've recently performed a reformat and have had to get all the video codecs sorted again. I have the most recent Catalyst drivers for my card.

My dual screen set up is:

Display 1 (Primary): Samsung VGA LCD attached via VGA
Display 2: VGA CRT attached via VGA-DVI converter to DVI port

When I play an XViD video in VLC on the secondary monitor it works fine and plays smoothly but when I move it to the primary LCD monitor all I see is the last frame before I moved it and the sound continues. If I play the XViD file in MPC or WMP it works on both monitors but the playback is laggy and occasionally slow. I've tried many codec packs including the k-lite, ffdshow and even the standalone XViD codec available on the site.

Can't figure out whats wrong, any help would be appreciated =]

That in itself may cause you all kinds of problems. K-lite may damage your existing codecs and it's very difficult to remove without further damage.

And all those will make no difference with VLC, as it uses only it's own included codecs.

When you say you only see the last frame, then it doesn't sound like a common overlay problem, though you might disable overlay in VLC and see if that makes any difference.

Others may have some better ideas.

    And welcome to our forums.

Thanks for the welcome and the suggestion, unfortunately disabling video overlay didn't help

Moving the video pane from one screen to another often causes the video to hang or stop (in my experience anyway). This is usually a video driver issue. I've had the problem off and on to varying degrees on my machine and it changes with driver updates. Usually stopping and restarting the video will correct it.

Your other issue with stuttering playback is likely codec related, especially if you keep adding/updating/changing codecs. You may or may not be able to correct it by uninstalling any codecs or codec packs that have uninstall options under add/remove programs. You should also uninstall any video players. After that, you can use a program such as codecsniper to check the remaining codecs. At this point a registry cleaning tool will come in handy to clean up the registry.

You can then start over. Install which ever player(s) that you want to use and then only install any missing codecs as you find files that won't play.
