VOB to WMV!!!!

Hey guys whats the BEST free program to do this?

Also, I need some instuctions on how to go through some of the confusing programs because this is my first time doing this! Please!!!

Do you mean a single VOB file or a VIDEO_TS folder that has all the DVD files in it?

For a VIDEO_TS folder you could extract the MPEG video with VOB2MPG.

For a single VOB, I've got away with just changing the extension to .mpg, though that's not really recommended.

EDIT: Or you might try SUPER, though I don't know if it can directly open VOBS. If you have the MPEG try it, or you might try Windows Media Encoder.

Thanks, but i need it in WMV format because Microsoft PowerPoint doesn't play the sound of MPG files.


I have a copy of the video which i made doing VOB2MPG, then the MPG to WMV but in the MPG to WMV file the video got really bad resolution.


Do you have any programs that will change MPG to WMV? It has to stay in perfect resolution (or near perfect).

Bad resolution is generally related to using too low of a bitrate when encoding. SUPER is not a very good WMV encoder, but you can increase the bitrate. (And the file size. ) Then the quality should improve.

I don't use Windows Media Encoder, but it should have several output size/bitrate settings for WMV encoding. It also appears to have a PowerPoint Add-In available.

And if you have Vista, you should have Windows Movie Maker or even Windows DVD Maker if you have Home Premium or higher. Both of them should be able to encode to a higher quality of WMV.

Windows Media Encoder is free if you have a legal copy of Windows. There are various free programs that can provide a more user friendly interface for encoding than the one that comes with WME. Go to http://www.doom9.net and look to the forums there for help with encoding or possibly even guides.
