  1. Hi,

Apologies for the basic nature of this query- I am just starting out...!

I am trying to convert a VOB file to WMV but when I upload the video to the converter (have used Magic Video Batch Converter and iSkySoft Video Converter) it only converts the first 6 seconds of a video that is over 5-6 minutes in length. The size of the file that I'm uploading corresponds with a video 5-6 minutes long but both the converters seem to only pick up the first 7 seconds!

Has anyone experienced this before and can anyone help??

    Any help gratefully appreciated,

    P

  4. Thanks for the responses.

I've just tried Windows Live Movie Maker and this has exactly the same problem (i.e. only shows first 7 secs of a movie I know is 5-6 mins long). What is really strange though is that if I drag the progress bar along the movie (which is says is only 7 seconds) I see frames from the full movie (all 5-6 mins) so I know it's there yet the duration of the film remains at 7 seconds and if I press play to preview the film, only the first 7 seconds are there....strange!! This is the same in all 3 converters I have tried so far!

Like I say, the file size also indicates that the movie is 5-6 mins long. It is a video of a bungee jump that I did a while back and I suspect that the first 7 seconds is 'generic library footage' of the bridge where I did the bungee, which they have added to the start of the video that was actually shot on the day- would this cause this issue?

    Anyone got any further ideas???

    cheers,

    P

You might be better off using VOB2MPEG on the .vob files from your footage - the .vob file you're trying to convert may not contain all of the footage, or have other things present that might be causing the converters to fail. A .vob file can be more than just an audio/video stream.

Once you have the MPEG(s) (VOB2MPEG won't re-encode the videos, if you're concerned), you can then pass them to whatever converter you prefer.
