  1. I have a movie that is in divx format.
    My player does both VCD and SVCD.
    Which format should I use that will get me the best picture quality(less blocky)?
    If SVCD I have no problem with using 2 cds.
    Movie stats:
    656x354
    23.976 frames/sec

  2. svcd is higher quality and so you will lose less quality...

  3. thanks, converting this to SVCD wouldn't be considering upsizing the resolution? (causing blocks)
    Also since this is in a wide format do I still use the settings for TMPGenc as explained in the convert directions on this website?
    source aspect ratio: 1=1, etc. ?
    I don't want to lose any of the picture top or sides

  4. should I also seperate the audio from the video?
    Is this always necessary when coverting divx to (S)Vcd?

  5. is it 656 wide x 354 high? if so keep the aspect ratio and you should be ok... for the sound i don't know why you'd seperate it unless you want to fix something (reduce noise or some such...) i don't do much svcd the dvd player i use doesn't accept them but logic would say you'd be ok as long as you save the aspect ratio
    however if it's 656 high by 354 wide... go to vcd (i've got to admit that format would be rather strange...)

  6. did you change your mind?
    now VCD?
    SVCD = 480x480
    VCD = 352x240
    this movie is 656x354
    my divx/dvd rips range from 640x272 to 704x336

    So which should I use?

    VCD for all of them or SVCD or a little of both?
    I dont care if it takes 2 cds for some of the movies either
    if VCD for all of them, what is SVCD reccomended for?
    I was going to seperate the audio because thats what the guide on this page says to do:
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/divxtovcd.htm

  7. i didn't change my mind you should use svcd but make sure you keep the aspect ratio however for the sound you might be right like i said i don't do much svcd even less divx to svcd...
    I'll repeat to make sure we understand each other: use svcd but keep the aspect ratio as long as your width is bigger than 480 your ok. if however your width is smaller than 480 go to vcd. keep your aspect ratio or else you'll have a wierd streched image... and keeping the aspect ratio will give you're svd the nifty dvd black borders look
