    Is there a way I can set the file so only administrator can delete, but user can't? I'm on window xp home sp1. Or set a password if someone wants to delete it.

    I have my Windowx XP Home SP2 system set up for multiple users and have experienced a few problems when using certain programs because of configuring my system this way. I find that when the administrator creates a file, even as part of software installation, nobody else can delete it (without resorting to DOS) or even modify it. Is XP SP1 different?

    I don't know for certain if it woukl work, but using the "Run As" option with Windows Explorer and logging in as administrator might allow one to delete these protected files using a password. See the Help and Support Center for more details

    * open Windows Explorer (double-click My Computer will do)
    * TOOLS menu, FOLDER OPTIONS
    * VIEW tab at top, turn OFF the "Use Simple File Sharing" option at bottom; OK to save
    * browse to folder containing file; right-click on file; select PROPERTIES option
    * SECURITY tab at top
    * select USER; you'll probably they have all permissions
    * click ADVANCED button; turn OFF the option "Inherit from parent"; OK then select COPY option when asked for new permission settings
    * now turn OFF the WRITE permission (auto-removes MODIFY too); click OK & you're done
