Finally moved about 400GB of .avi files from our church VT4 system (for capturing/edit broadcasts) over to an external HD. Well everything went fine looked at the files on the external and could see the thumbnails even click one or two to make sure they would play.

Turned the external on later and opened file up in Vegas and found "Media Offline" in the Video Track. After further investigation clicked on the files trying to play them one by one and while there is a clip in the thumbnail when clicked on only plays sound and no video.

Any idea on what may be wrong? I'm currently recovering the video files as I deleted them (yeah dumb move so soon) all of them from the main computer!!!!

    HELP PLEASE

do the file sizes match? what type of vid file? did you try copying one back to the vt4 to see if it plays there? too many variables to guess at. might be as simple as unplugging the external from the comp and re-plugging. might be they were 2 part vid files written with sector byte offsets and can't be moved/copied at all....

    Thanks for the reply.
    1) not sure how to answer the size match question as I just dragged all to the external. 2) no i didnt try copying them back, will try that today.

I'm thinking that the latter might be the issue that they just cant be copied with a simple drag n drop to an external.

Just really upset with myself for going so far as to empty the recycle bin when I know better
