Hey guys. I've been getting into burning DVDs lately and I keep getting issues burning specific AVI files. The software i use to create DVDs is Roxio DVD Builder. Some of my files will burn perfectly and others will get the "Data of this type is not supported." message. After a lot of figuring out and looking at details i finally figured out why.

The burnable DVDs have an audio bit rate of 192kbps. The ones that don't burn have 128kbps. I'm pretty clueless at DVDs right now so can anyone help me out here? Is there some way to convert the 128kbps to 192kbps? Thanks in advance!

Just another note: when i burn DVDs using WinDVD Creater it accepts all types of AVI files. I don't know why Roxio doesn't either.

The bitrate shouldn't make much difference but the sample rate needs to be 48Khz. I would also check for MP3 VBR audio, framesize wrong or other variations. See 'WHAT IS' DVD to the upper left on this page for the DVD specification and format.

And 'burning' is the last bit of making a DVD, when the DVD laser actually creates the disc.

First comes encoding to DVD compliant MPEG-2 (Or 1), then authoring to the DVD format and structure with menu and chapter creation, then finally is burning.

And you may have better luck with other conversion programs like ConvertXToDVD.

    And welcome to our forums.

Thanks redwudz! I checked a few videos with GSpot and found out that the videos that didn't work had 44.1Khz and the ones that did had 48Khz. I'm going to check the link on "What is DVD". There was a link that showed you how to change the sample rate.

Is there anything else i need to know before i change the sample rate? Will it go out of sync or anything?

Also thanks for clearing up the definitions for me I just started making DVDs not too long ago.

Ditch Roxio, as it obviously isn't creating DVD compliant output. ConvertXtoDVD is fast, simple and works for most source files. FAVC is slower, but produces better quality and also works with most file types.

There is no reason why you should have to change your source files to make Roxio work. Use something better instead.

I have been having a similar issue with AVI buring as well. I have used ConvertXtoDVD as well as Nero 7. One thing I'm noticing as well is that the movie and the sound are not keeping up with each other. The movie plays faster than the words. Not to mention it takes over 2hrs to burn an .avi file with Nero or ConvertXtoDVD.

If it takes two hours to burn a disc, you have a major problem. But you are probably meaning the whole conversion not burning. (See other post) It should take 15 minutes max at 4X. With those AVIs, drop one into Gspot 2.70. I suspect VBR audio or some sort of unusual audio format. ConvertX handles most VBR audio and similar, but not all. Try converting one without the audio and you may see.

What I do is to open them in VirtualDub Mod and save out the audio as a WAV with full audio processing. Then add that WAV back in and save as a 'Direct stream copy', audio and video. Then use that new file with ConvertX. One guide: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=280779

Your right its the conversion that takes up to 2hr or more. The actual buring takes about 10min. Is the 2hr conversion normal? Nero says is "transcoding", when this is happening.

Two hours seems a little slow for a conversion with your listed computer. If you have read around our forums a little you would find that Nero wants to 're-encode' just about everything, even compliant video. This results in more quality loss. A good reason never to use it for that, IMO.

MP3 VBR audio is common with videos off the net. Always check them with Gspot if you want to avoid some sync problems.

    Another quick question:

I have some TV shows I recorded with Windows Media Center. They are "dvr.ms". What's the best all around converter software for changing these to Avi, Mpeg , WMV, etc...?

I have I'm Too3P converter, buit its not keeping the quality. Nero Recode works pretty will, but I'm still seeing the slower audio. I also have Fairuse Wizard, but it will not convert to otehr formats unsless its from a DVD.

    So what should I use?
