  1. I have a DVDR which a friend gave me to check out since he could not get it to play. It played on my DVD player (it said bad disc a couple times and took a couple reloads before it played) but when I put it in my computer, no ripping program can read it and Windows Explorer says its an empty CD-R while Isobuster says its a blank DVDR but there certainly is material on it. Another post suggested downloading an update for the UDF reading dll (I have no idea what that is but I did it) and the computer still does not see the disc.

Is this a bad burn or was it written in some weird way?

Bad media. Try on more computers, some dvd reader out there may read it. You can also try cdroller and dvdfab decrypter if you haven't done that already.

  3. isobuster may also work, make sure it is clean and it may be it was not finalised on the original dvd recorder?

  4. Neither DVDFabDecrypter nor CD Roller recognize that there is a disc in the drive. If it is bad media, then Datawrite certainly does not live up to the hyperbole on its website.

But how is it that a hardware player will read it but not a computer drive?

  5. this is where y finalise suggestion came from,,how did you friend create the dvd?,,isbuster should read it though, have you a dvd player and seperate dvd recorder, hitch the player up to the recorder and just copy it but make sure you finalise the new disc.

  6. He didn't create the DVD. It was a trade. I guess I'll have to look into DVD recorders.

ISOPuzzle is very persistent, although you may have to let it run for a day and let it cycle the drive frequently.

  12. As far as ISOPuzzle is concerned, the disc is empty. It says UNNAMED_VOLUME (0 MB).

Just a suggestion but perhaps the disc isn't finalized. If you have nero (and yes this is the only time I will suggest nero) try to finalize the disc with it. I had a disc I once forgot to finalize. It would sometimes play on my standalone player. Could not read it from pc-dvdrom. Only drive that would read it was the burner I used to create it. Finalized it with nero and problems went away.

Edit... Just re-read your post and noticed that you couldnt read it in any drives so I guess my suggestion is moot. Sorry.

  14. This is an "oh screw it" situation, I always offer to sort the disc out for free if you'd mail it to me, or if you can play it on a dvd player and you know someone with a dvd recorder thats one idea, or if you can connect the dvd player to your computer and capture it.
