    30 00 00 00 05 88 80 00 00 00 02 00 06 09 0d 13 0...............

    Media color and text:
    Silver Imation DVD-R / 16x 4.7GB, 2hr

    UPC/EAN Code:
    051122219795

and they don't work in my Nec 2500a or my old 1100

They work great in my 3550-a

I've used my 2500 and 1100 foever and they always burn anything I throw at them.
Nero tells me that the discs are illegal and DVD decrypter doesn't even recognize that there is a disk in the drive.

    Why would this happen?

The media id for those IMATION discs is considered crappy dvd media. You can try using the latest DVDFAB DECRYPTER to see if those discs can be read. The NEC 1100 & 2500 probably doesn't support that media id but there maybe a firmware update for those drives to support that media id.

When I started regularly using 16x media in my 2500A I found I had to upgrade the firmware to make it work. Some would burn, most would not. The upgrade fixed it. They won't burn at 16x, but they burn.

Personally I would not bother with the imation discs, upgrade or not.
