I have a dvd camcorder and I used a DVD RW disc to record on...I want to edit this dvd on Windows Movie Maker but I could not open it in WMM (it did not support a Video_ts file) So...I got the Windows Media Encoder and tried to convert it there...It did convert it but now I can only see the main menu of the dvd...not any of the scenes on the disc!!!! I am getting very frustrated. I've been trying to figure this out for 2 days now... So my basic question is....

Does anyone know how to save individual scenes on an already recorded disc so it can be converted and edited on Windows Movie Maker?!

Thanks so much any help or guidance is greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks

    Welcome annabelle88

You want to update your pc specs first ... windows movie maker is not supported under winnt 2000 ... unless a certain package was installed ... which development appears to have been halted due to pressure from ms .

Video_ts.vob = menu (what you ended up with)

Vts_01_01.vob would have been first vob containing video , actual title .

Vobs renamed to mpg , containing mpeg-1 audio layer 2 , can be brought into windows movie maker , but exported only , not actually editable .

Having said that ... its a very unstable tool at times ... although I have no problems .

Windows media encoder needs help to convert the entire title , should it spread over several vobs .

Vob2mpeg ... but beware if your drive is fat32 ... the 4gig limit issue .

    ----

Start with transferring disc to pc .

    Dvddecrypter

Dvdfab decrypter , if commercial disc copying ... the free version link is down below... look for "please visit our Free Stuff page" ... down lower right .

    Burning > imgburn .

    Editing :

    Commercial products :

    Sony vegas
Ulead video studio ... se version cheap in ebay
    Dvdlab pro
    Tmpgenc dvd author
    Nero vision express

If you want to do it using freeware , take a look through the guides section will give you a good idea of what may be needed ... but I'll throw a few in .

    Dvdauthorgui
    The gimp
    Besweet
    Dvdshrink
    Wax2
    Mpeg streamclip
    Vobblanker
    Pgcedit
    Syncview
    Visualsubsync / subtitle workshop
    Dvdslideshowgui
    Ssmm
    Bbmpeg
    Virtualdub / mod
    Blender
    Vlc / koolplaya

    Add

    Vobsub
    VSFilter / DirectVobSub
    Ac3_filters
    Stinkys MPEG2 Codec

Should just about do it ... guides help

    ----

To use windows movie maker as an editor , you need to go from vob to avi , which isn't pretty .

Install Cedocida DV Codec ... from this site (unpack and right click inf , select install)

Create a new folder on C
    Call it mydvd
Now move all vobs belonging to title here
    Run virtualmod
Go to tools , script editor

Take a look at folder "mydvd"
You will write a script using these exact names only

    Lets say you have vts_01_1.vob , vts_01_2.vob , vts_01_3.vob , vts_01_4.vob , vts_01_5.vob

    Script will now look like

    C:\mydvd\vts_01_1.vob
    C:\mydvd\vts_01_2.vob
    C:\mydvd\vts_01_3.vob
    C:\mydvd\vts_01_4.vob
    C:\mydvd\vts_01_5.vob

    Save as

    Vts_01.lst

Before you do save it with this name

Change "save as type" = file
It must be saved in the "mydvd" folder only

    Close script editor

Back in virtualmod , File > open
    Select that lst file only

In new window , hit preview window to tell if video appears as it should , if not , close preview , adjust , preview , repeat till correct ... normally dosent need doing .

    In audio 1

If ac3 , set to stream required , decode to pcm , dolby surround downmix .
If audio is other , it may give no option .

    Click ok and wait .

Go to avi > audio 2 = none
Go to avi > audio 1 = wav ... select that wav file just created

Video > compression > select cedocida > ok

From here > edit > begining
Down on time bar , you will notice two black markers

Hit the first one (locks first frame)

Now drag the button on the actual timeline to the right ... till 5000 frames are shown .

Hit the button on the right to lock this frame as last .

Avi , save as avi > out to new folder called rawavi , name it as ONE and wait .

When done , back in vmod , hit left arrow key on keyboard , lock as first .
Move 5000 frames to the right , lock as last frame .
    Save again as SECOND .

You will repeat this process to completed .

You should be able to bring these into windows movie maker , and edit as you like ... but save project OFTEN or else .

Its not a fast process , even on my system .

Need anything clarified , pm me .

I would use VOB2MPG on the DVD and you will get one mpg that you may be able to open in wmm or wme.

But PLEASE wait some days before you bump/reply to your topic. Not 20 minutes.
