I've got to spec out some new systems and I was wondering if anyone can suggest an LGA 775 that you personally know of which registers above 2GB RAM for Windows. Not all of them do. I'm going to load them up with 4GB. The Mac Pro steadfastly refuses to register above 2GB RAM, even though you physically install 4.

I have a Gigabyte LGA775 - GA-81945GMF that allows 4GB to be installed. However, the mobo user manual states:
"Due to standard PC architecture, a certain amount of memory is reserved for system usage and therefore the actual memory size is less than the stated amount. For example, 4GB of memory size will instead be shown as 3.xxGB memory during system startup"

I only have 512MB, sor I can't comment on actual results.

I hope this is of some use to you.

Thanks Brosco I'm currently checking out the DFI Blood Iron

I've had excellent luck with DFI Mobos. Built about a dozen of them a few years back and each one booted perfectly. Just gotta check if it'll support 4GB

You'd be hard pressed to find ANY mobo that doesn't support 8GB these days...It's the OS you've got to worry about. In order to use more than ~3.5GB on a machine you'll need a 64-bit OS.

Cool. That's what I figured. It was that damn Mac Pro running Bootcamp that threw me for a loop. Thanks.

Just got two of the Blood Irons in - They're Nice! The system started correctly on first boot (I love when that happens). I partitioned the drives into 2 for testing - XP32 vs XP64. First thing of interest:

    XP64

    XP32

3.25GB of RAM with the /3GB /PAE switches activated in Boot.ini
