    MP4 to VCD ???

    Expanded question...

    I have many MPEG-4 files, usually from 700mb to somewhere around 1 Gig, that I want to burn to "CD's" (because I don't have a DVD burner). I have one of those small portable DVD players with the built in screen and wanted to take these videos with me to view when away from home. This player does NOT indicate being able to play any other file types (like MP4), so I want to convert these files to VCD (or SVCD or what?) to play on the DVD player.

    This really involves two questions;

    1. What software would be best to convert MPEG-4 into VCD or whatever file type is best to use? I checked Videohelp's guides, but with all the various configurations given, nothing shows up when I click the MP4toVCD configuration.

    2. Would it be possible to divide the larger files (over 700 mb), either before or after conversion, in order to fit it on more then one CD and have them still play on the DVD player? And how would I do this?

    I know this is pretty extensive. I hugely appreciate any information you pass on. IT will help me immensely .

    Thank you very much!

    Just convert them with ConvertXtoDVD . You can stick a bunch onto a single DVD, depending on the duration of the videos. This will be your simplest and quickest way to do it.

    Soopafresh, thanx for responding... uhm. My problem is, as I stated in the parenthesis at the end of the first sentence... I don't have a DVD burner. Sad, yes. I just don't have the money at the moment for one. Is it just too much problem trying to do what I wanted?

    Would really appreciate input.

    You would either need to make "multiple" vcd disc's per title , or create an out of spec (non-compliant) vcd disc .

    But then vcd video bitrate is around 1100kbps ... haven't done one in year's ... no need to .

    http://home.cogeco.ca/~avi2vcd/ , can split titles .
    There's still a free version of vcdeasy .

    Nero vision express can be bought cheap in ebay which includes vcd output .

    Me neither. I used to create VCDs around 5 years ago. Can't even recall how they're done any longer.

    FAVC can convert mp4 to VCD resolution. Just tell it not to delete the working files and you can access them for whatever else you need to do to them.

    VCD or SVCD, it will likely take two CDs per movie. You can try squeezing one movie on a CD, but the bitrate would be something like 500Kbps, which would be probably terrible quality for a MPG and way out of spec for either format. If your player accepts just MPEGs you could try that. It's too bad your player doesn't do Xvid or other more compressed formats.

    But give VCD or SVCD format a try.
