I am looking for a TV tuner with hardware MPEG 2/4 encoding.
It would be good if this tuner will work on Linux.
Can you advice me best chose?

Hauppague 150 can record in MPEG-1/2/4 (really AVI for MPEG-4), but the 250 and 350 can only record in MPEG-1/2.

Privet! Hauppauge rabotaet ochen xorosho c Linuxom.

  3. As far as Linux goes... DON'T get the Hauppauge HVR1600. Why the hell won't Hauppauge make Linux drivers a priority?

If I understand correctly i can grab video from this card by command:

I would be VERY surprised if your "cat" command works at all. Hauppauge cards have a software program called WinTV 2000 that we use to capture video with the card. We can change frame rate, etc., in WinTV 2000.

Here is a link that tells how to set some values in the registry for various Hauppauge cards to make them do things that they don't usually do.
