hiding windows/items form the taskbar

how do i hide an item from the task bar.
at the moment i have internet explorer open on it i dont wanna hide that!
ut i have downloaded a bit of software which iso n the taskbar at the moment how do i hide that so its only visible on task manager?

What part of the Task Bar?. If it's the Quick Launch, just delete them, they're only short cuts. If it's the part of the Task Bar near the clock, click on the Task Bar and select 'Properties', then you can click 'Hide inactive icons', then 'Customize' and you should be able to change if they appear. You can adjust their settings with the drop down selection in the 'Behavior' menu.
