  1. I have this avi file and for some reason there are subtitles and I can't turn them off. I have opened the file in vdubmod and several other similar programs and yet I cannot even find a subtitle stream in the video. Can anyone suggest a good program that can help me rip these subtitles out of this avi or at least some method of doing it?

I also want to know if it is possible that a video could have subtitles that are impossible to remove?

  2. Are they burned into the video? Scroll around the video in VDubMod and if you see them, they're burned into the video. SubRip claims to be able to OCR such subs.

If by remove you mean get them out of the video, you can cover them up, or you can crop them out. Neither is a satisfactory solution.

If You want to extract the subtitle from the video, use AviSubDetector, it works, I already extracted.
But If You want to remove the subtitle, that is another story, i'm still trying to find out how to do it or how to put them invisible.

    Well, you can try
    VirtualDub MSU Subtitle Remover

    I haven't used this myself.
