  1. Hello all,

I've been given a non-copyright protected, basically a home movie, on dvd (.vob, etc files). I need to convert it to .wmv for streaming on a website. I've tried dvd to avi, but it keeps crashing on me (both on XP pro sp2 and on Vista Ultimate, more than enough ram, processor & hd space). I know that once i get it to an avi I can use windows media encoder to convert to wmv, no problem.

I also tried importing it using Windows Movie Maker on Vista Ultimate, but it only captures the first 30 seconds or so of the 7 minute clip.

Can anyone provide any insight on this? Maybe I need some vista codecs? Or is there a "better" version of dvd to avi that won't crash when being run on XP Pro? I know I've used it (dvd to avi) in the past on my XP box, but unfortunately that system has been rebuilt since then.

Thanks in advance for your help!

dvd to avi? the old dvd2avi or what tool???

AutoMKV can convert directly to wmv! Click on it for guides. Or use VOB2MPG on the DVD and then import the mpg in windows media encoder or windows movie maker.
