After wasting about 10 Verbatim DL discs, here I am... looking for some help. I have tried burning movies into the DVD+R DL media using Nero Burning Rom (versions 7.5 thru latest 7.10.1) and pretty much, all have been coasters. The menus doesn't get played (freezes) well with either of my Zenith 612 or Philips 642 DVD players. Then, I looked into this forum for some help and lot of you suggested using ImgBurn to burn the DL movies... Yesterday, I installed and burnt a full movie into the DL media but it had the same problem playing in my DVD players... The main movie works fine but the menus don't. Has anyone come across this issue? I need some help to overcome this...

    Thanks in advance,

    Vittal

  2. Are you sure the menus work?

Just as a test use DVDShrink and shrink to fit on one SL DVD (4.7Gb) and see if it plays that way when you burn it.

Yes... it works in a regular DVD-R after I compress it using DVD-Shrink or Nero Recode. The problem has always been burning the full movie into the DL media...

  4. At this point it sounds like your player doesn't like burned DL discs or the burner. I had a similar problem where only one machine would play the discs. Changing out the Pioneer for a Lite-On solver that. Evidently the Pioneer wasn't doing a good job of burning them. I use two different Lite-On models in two different computers and the DLs from them now play in everything I have.

Can you take one of the DLs that do not play good with you to a store and test in the players? If it plays good there you know what to do.

I can tell you that my 3 year old Philips DVP-642 plays Verbatim DVD+R DL burns with few problems. I can't so no problems, but things mostly work. I've seen a few complicated menus not work very well, but there were multiple paths to the same submenu and one of those paths worked fine. I think I read that the current DVP-642 is not exactly the same as my old model and may have different firmware in it. If that's true, my experience may be useless to you if you have a current DVP-642.

You say nothing about how you made the image you burned. My suggestion would be to do this:
    http://www.digital-digest.com/~blutach/pgcedit_guide/burning_with_pgcedit/burning_with...pgcedit_v2.htm
This method always works for me.

We also don't know whether you are copying commercial DVDs or if you made your own DVDs and menus. If you're making your own menus, perhaps something is wrong there. You can always
play your discs on a PC and see if they play OK there. If they do, then the problem has to do with your DVD players.

    Appreciate your feedback.

I wanted to make a full copy of a commercial move and did so by first decoding using DVDFab Platinum and then tried to burn using both Nero Burning Rom and ImageBurn and both resulted in faulty copies.

Yes ... I did come across this before , and you'll find the info here

    https://forum.videohelp.com/topic335236.html#1742792

In this case , locate the first menu item that should be displayed by default , and check in pgcedit what the time length is .

If dvd runs at 29fps , generate a replacement menu m2v with 29 frames , use the facility built into dvdauthorgui to generate the file , and inject the replacement using vobblanker .

Should time length be equal or greater (includes audio) , try adding a first play clip which includes audio prior to menu showing ... it works as well ... yet can be more complicated in doing so depending on the dvd structure .

A logo clip would do for this .

In DVDFab use VSO to burn instead of Ner0....try it....I use Fab to backup to DL verbs successfully, set booktype to dvd-rom.... but I don't use Ner0 to burn.....JM2cents
