I would like to take a short video clip - a few seconds - and convert it to a series of jpg files.
Maybe even something I can use from the command prompt.

Does anyone know of a free (preferably) program that can do this?

virtualdub or virtualdubmpeg2 or virtualdubmod, file->save image sequence.

I guess you can use mencoder or ffmpeg from the command prompt to output jpgs also but I'm not sure how.
