I had no problems with Holy Bible-KJV-Scourby 2007, Disc 2, New Testament. It played fine immediately. Also there was no problem ripping it to make a backup copy.
However there is a problem with the book of Nehemiah in the Old Testament, Disc 1. I tested two different original copies of this disc and they behaved exactly the same, which probably rules out a damaged disc.
Nehemiah would not play on my Emerson DVD player EWD7003. Attempting to play it hung the DVD player, and the only way to escape was to press Stop or recycle the tray. However Nehemiah played OK on my computer's internal LG DVD drive, a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B. All other books on this disc that I tried (and I tried quite a few) played OK, so it appears that only Nehemiah has a problem.
Further investigation showed that Disc 1, Old Testament, would not rip with DVD Shrink 3.2, producing an immediate error message saying it has an invalid DVD structure. Attempting to rip it with DVDFab HD Decrypter 3.1.5.0 also failed; it stopped ripping and gave an error message when it arrived at VTS16. (Incidentally Nehemiah is the 16th book in the Old Testament.) However it ripped OK, at least without any complaints, using RipIt4Me. After burning the resultant VIDEO_TS folder to a DL DVD using ImgBurn, lo and behold Nehemiah now plays OK on my Emerson DVD player. So this is a case of a ripped copy working better than the original!
I don't know the cause of this problem but the DL layer break seems involved. It turns out that Nehemiah is about 50% of the way through the Old Testament, Disc 1. There were many layer break possibilities offered by ImgBurn, and the first ones were in the book of Nehemiah at 50/50. Some of them were non-functional because the Preview button was grayed out, so they couldn't be examined. I successfully chose an active/functional layer break as offered by ImgBurn in the book of Job, layer break 2050237-2050240 (second one) padding 3% 51/49 VTS18.
I'm no expert and would appreciate any insights into this problem.
