    Hi everyone:

I have a homemade DVD which contains 3 vob files that total 2.2GB.

I used VideoRedo to edit the 3 vob files, joined them and saved my edited file as 1 single vob file. The new vob file has the approximate size of the original 3 vobs combined (2.2GB).

I used DivXToDVD to author my new vob file (2.2GB), the whole thing ballooned 4 vob files that total +3.1GB.

Why did this happen? Is there any other DVD authoring software that I can use and that won't drastically increase the size of my DVD?

    Thanks

DivxToDVD is set up to use as much of tthe DVD as practical, AFAIK. That sounds like it re-encoded the files. Or it used PCM audio.

Just use a regular authoring program like TMPGEnc DVD Author. Or GUI for dvdauthor, but with it I think you need to have elemental audio and video streams.

DivxToDVD and ConvertXtoDVD are video conversions tools. Why do so many people use them to author compliant VOBs and mpeg files ? I have even seen people pass it whole DVDs.

Use the right tools for the job, and you will get the right outcomes.

    Hi redwudz,

    You wrote:

I have not used either but for my own experiments, I made 3 MPEG files from my original DVD (3 vob files). Then I used TMPGEnc to merge the 3 MPEG files. The video part was OK but not the audio. The joint MPEG file was silent because TPMGEnc did not recognize the AC-3 audio.

Is this what you meant "elemental audio"?

guns1inger, besides TMPGEnc DVD Author and GUI for dvd author, are there other softwares that you may consider suggesting to me? Please remember that I am still using Windows98SE.

    Thanks

    Hi redwudz & guns1inger:

A friend sent me the trial version of TMPGEnc DVD AUthor 1.6.34.89. It's a trial version, good for 30 days. I installed it and everything came out perfect.

One disturbance, though: before I installed the software, I noticed a file with the name "ReadMeFirst!!.info". In the past, I was guilty for not reading the "readme" file, so this time I opened it. Shoosh! OMG! such abusive language (anti-gay, anti-waregivers, etc.). The language is simply too bad for me to re-print it here.

I wonder if this came from TMPGEnc. If it did, shame on them. After 30-day trial period, instead of buying the code, I will simply uninstall this software.

    Thanks for all your helps.

It would be irresponsible for a company like TMPGENC or Pegasys to put that type of language with any of their products, so that was likely added by someone else for their own reasons.

I would be careful of software you received from questionable sources as there may also be some malware, viruses and trojans included. You should go to the program manufacturers sites for a trustworthy version. But I don't believe TDA 1.6 is available for purchase any more, but is available for trial.
