I have an avi file that contains two languages, one spanish and one english.

Ive tried both ffmpeg and mpeg2encoder. With mpeg2enc I tried both to encode using quicktime and mplayer, the last to no avail. The film is an ntsc film.

I have selected audio track 0, 1 and 2 but the none of the three attempts produced the english audio track.

How can I choose the right track?

You can use VirtualDubMod and the Streams menu to disable an audio track. You then save it as a new AVI using "Direct Stream Copy" in the save dialog (should only take a minute or so with Direct Stream Copy). When you disable an audio track it is excluded from the saved file, leaving you with an AVI with only 1 track. Makes converting much less of a headache
