Hello fellows.
After burning almost 400 discs (regular DVD's and DVD-dl's) in a period of a couple of years or so my system decided that its time to give up the ghost or make fun of it self.
looking back at my last 10 or so burns my writer started to make strange click like noices but the burns itself were completed without any problems.
out of the last ten disks (DL's), the last 4 completed the burn but with warnings of "lead-out" problems even thought the files were successfully saved and so were the discs.
From the same 10 discs the same can't be say about the very last 3 discs (DL's again)...all 3 have stopped at about 60% to 70% obviously loosing the discs.
I made a "simulation" burn and the same problem..luckily without loosing a disc.
Then, I burned a regular 4.7 DVD and it went through just fine. (I also did a simulation prior to the actual burn without any problems).
So as you can see, the problem is with the DL's only...anybody has any ideas as to what my problem is?
Media used...RIDATA DL-+/- and different speeds.
I must say...my percentage of dvd/cd discs burned with my Sony 820A was or is at about 95% success in case anyone wonders.
Thanks for your help.

I would verify the data integrity of the last 10 discs using an app such as DVDInfoPro. Just because the burns completed, doesn't mean the data is all there and/or accurate.
FWIW, it sounds like a hardware failure issue. Time to get a new burner.Google is your Friend -
Hardware failure, that's probably the case. Just got a new sony opteron and a new double layer pack of 25 discs and the burn came out ok. But I think there may be a glitch with my new burner because out of the 28 files burned into the compilation (Movie files .just free tubey stuff :P) 3 specific clips did not play on my window player to the point where I had to close explorer and reopen it again and again and yet they did pick up on my defective sony and I was able to play them. That got me thinking...may these 3 files were somewhat corrupt and messing up my writings. (Now that I have saved this compilation and cleared up all the data....I will check it again with new fresh data and see what happens, maybe my sony writer still good after all)
As for verifying data, I usually check every single file once burned and in the case of movies I simply watch the first 10-20 seconds to see that they are there and thats sufficient for me (The very very important stuff like family things, documents..etc etc I do twice burn). Although you may have a good point, just because I play the first frames doesn't necessarily means that the whole file is good. (Well, I'll just cross my fingers and hope for the best).
Could it be also be possible that the last 5 discs on that particular package have been defective?..Like I said, I have burned about 200 DL'S with about 10 of them being total loses. That's a pretty good percentage if you ask me.
Thanks Krispy Kritter.
