I'm about to transfer some VHS tapes onto my PC using a MSI TV ANYWHERE capture card. The software setup for the capture tab shows Video Input and Video Output (for now I dont have to edit anything so this will be on DVD NTSC option).

But my concern is the Video Input, what do I select? Options are :
    UYVY, YUY2 and RGB24.

The VHS tapes are from 1992 and the VHS player is an old one too.. so the equipment is not very good.

  2. UYVY and YUY2 are very similar, both YUV colorspace with 4:2:2 subsampling, just different orderings of the Y, U, and V components (http://www.fourcc.org/yuv.php). Both will yield the same quality. You would prefer one over the other if you were saving in that format and using some other software that only handles one of them.

Don't use RGB unless you're going to output RGB to some other software that only accepts RGB input. UYVY and YUY2 are much closer to what appears in the analog video signal. The capture card actually captures in YUV format. If you ask for RGB either the driver or the capture software converts to RGB. This reduces precision and can lose details in very dark and very light portions of the picture. It also increases bandwidth and CPU power requirements making dropped frames more likely.
