jvc vcr will play vhs tapes fine, but I can't successfully connect dvd or Wii to the vcr to get the signal delivered to tv.

tv and vcr each set to channel 4 signal
tv/video switch on remote gets me only a blue screen.
    What am I screwing up?

Don't set the vcr channel to '4'. Set it to 'AUX' between channel 99 and 2.

  3. What kind of cabling are you using? "Channel 4" only applies to cable coax. If you are using composite (yellow, red, white RCA connectors) or s-video (4 pin DIN + red and white RCA connectors) cable you want to use one of the "video" sources on the TV.

This sounds like a problem I read about quite awhile ago, but I just found the page that has the information that describes the problem you might be having and a solution. For this specific problem here's the essential information:

[3.2.1] Will I have problems connecting my VCR between my TV and my DVD player?
    http://dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#3.2.1

It's not a good idea to route the video from your DVD player through your VCR. Most movies use Macrovision protection (see 1.11 { http://dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#1.11 } ), which affects VCRs and causes problems such as a repeated darkening and lightening of the picture. If your TV doesn't have a direct video input, you may need a separate RF converter (see 3.2 { http://dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#3.2 } ). Or better yet, get a new TV with direct video inputs.

You may also have problems with a TV/VCR combo, since many of them route the video input through the VCR circuitry. The best solution is to get a box to strip Macrovision (see 1.11 { http://dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#1.11 } ).
