WinAvi Video Converter v. 8.0 has the option to add subtitles in srt format. It also has the option to choose the size, color and position of the subtitles. However, I cannot figure out how the positioning works. If for an example I want the subtitles to be displayed as low as possible on my TV screen, then which fields should I fill out and with which values?

  2. Size, color, and position are available in the SRT specification.

However, if you find a playback software that actually uses this info, or even ignores it without error, please let us know as there are currently none listed.

Best use for this "feature" is not to use it at all.

Well that was not the answer I expected, the WinAvi Video Converter is not a playback software but a converter. I see this feature works in Ulead DVD Workshop, so why not in WinAvi.

  4. Again a converter. It is not much good to create a file with a certain option, if that option cannot be used in playback.

In fact, most players will not accept the file at all, meaning you have gone to extra effort to create an unusable file.

These are not my rules, I do not make 'em up. Check a recent post in the Subtitle section from Flourodemoc, or something like that. Goes over this exact subject.

Some of the "image style" formats can actually use this information, at the cost of a more complicated conversion step.

But for SRT, there is currently NO software which will actually use the position info and do something with it. You can Make as many as you want. You can't play them, software, hardware, anything. Most will see the entire file as invalid. The rest just ignore the extra info.
