No mysteries involved. The OS has all the drivers needed for a DVD burner, so you don't have to add anything. If they burned well enough to play on the computer, then you may have other problems.

Some media and some burners and some set top players don't always work well together. The first suspect is usually the DVD media and that's usually the first thing you want to change. For one reason, it's easy to change.

What brand and type media are you using? Have you tried a different brand? Did you try them on any other set top DVD players? What brand and model of set top DVD player do you have? Also when you say it didn't play on the set top player, how? Did it say 'illegal disk' or just eject the DVD? Any errors from the player?

Some of this compatibility and media quality information you can discover yourself. To the left on this page, we have lists of DVD players, DVD Writers (Burners) and DVD Media. Most have user comments that go with each. You may find out you have a incompatible combination.

A good site for media info is lordsmurf's site: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

If you are able to watch them on the computer, you likely already have all the codecs needed for a DVD. If you used DVD Shrink, you might also use ImgBurn instead to burn them. It works better than Nero. You can use the 'Build' mode in ImgBurn and burn your VIDEO_TS folder to DVD that way. For reference on the DVD format and specifications, you might want to look to the top left on this page for 'WHAT IS' DVD to see if you are making DVD compliant files.

If you still have problems, even with other media, there may be something wrong with the burner or or proceedures. But as mentioned, if they play on the computer, you are halfway there.

And jcooper39, in the future please don't double post. One post per topic is enough. I have deleted the other post. Please read our rules before posting.

How did you create your dvd (the ifo's, bup's and vob's)? What software did you use to write it to disk? What settings? Did you write it as a dvd-video or as a data disk?

Whenever I burn DVDs lately, they skip and freeze up. I'm using dvdshrink and then Nero to burn. I even turned down the burn speed. The funny thing is that when I use convertXtoDVD and then Nero to burn, it works perfectly. Anybody got any suggestions?

Use better DVD media and ImgBurn to burn with instead of Nero would be my suggestions.
