    Hi folks!
First of all, I'm completely computer illiterate- I'm blonde, so don't tend to know what any of the jargon means!

I'm sure I'm trying to do something very simple, but don't know where to start!

I have a JVC digital camcorder (a GR-D240 EK) with a DV link.
In my blondeness i figured I could send off for a DV link cable, so I bought one which I thought had a USB part on the other end!
It turns out its a 6 pin IEEE 1394 plug meant for a pc equipped with a capture board with that terminal.
I have pushed and squeezed, but there definately isn't any place to attach it!

    What should I do?
Do I send it back? Is there a connection I can buy for it?
Would that even work or is there software that I need as well?

    Help!

    Thanks

    Maz xx

You need a firewire(IEEE 1394) card, about $15. Very easy to install, open the case and plug it in.

You can't use USB no matter what to transfer video from your cam.

To get the video to your computer there's many programs but for free you can use WinDV once you have the card installed.

As you are in the UK, get yourself one of these http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=407&prepg=1

It comes complete with cable so you won't need the one you have bought and software. The last one I got came with a free version of Ulead DVD Moviefactory which will do everything from capturing through to burning to DVD and is fairly straightforward to use.

That will just leave you with the problem of fitting it into your computer.......
