ok, so, my dad has a Cingular 8125 cell phone, also known as an HTC Wizard. He has video clips on it. We can't run MS ActiveSync because he is using Windows 98, which will not run the latest ActiveSync. Therefore I copied the videos to his laptop via a miniSD card. The problem is, they are in MP4 format. I want to convert them FROM mp4 to another, more common format, such as AVI or WMV. I've seen plenty of stuff to convert TO mp4, but I want to convert FROM mp4.

Can anybody recommend a free program to do that? Free as in free beer, not necessarily free as in GPL, although both kinds of free would be an extra bonus.

I know of mp4cam2avi, it did not appear to work (tell it to start decoding and the progress bar does not move), I am currently working with the author of it on that, is there another project that might work better for me?

If it can't be done with a free program, what is the best commercial one to use?

btw I've lived in Silicon Valley all my life, I have a CompTIA A+ Certification, and I run Linux and FreeBSD on this PC in addition to Win 2k, so technical replies are welcome.
