How do I convert MP4 to AVI?

I've been download Lecture series from YouTube, @780p quality.

Here are the complete media details: http://pastebin.com/TAKht9dt

My reasoning for converting MP4 to AVI is for playback on my DVD Player [DivX Supported].

I am currently using DivX Converter to achieve this, however the conversion from input [MP4, 836MB] to the output [AVI, 382MB] leaves much to be wanted.

The output resolution is 720x405, my TV is PAL. The converted video plays perfectly.

Which method provides the highest-quality converted AVI from the YouTube videos [MP4]?

Please tell me which method you would use.

    Thanks

  2. Do what you're doing, just use a higher bitrate (larger file size). Your Divx/DVD player will not play files larger than 720x576 so you won't be able to convert to a high def AVI.

If Divx Converter will allow you to change the frame size, I highly recommend using 720x400 or 720x404 instead of 720x405. Many players will choke on the latter. You can get a little higher quality by encoding at 720x480 with 16:9 DAR flags -- if your player supports DAR flags.
