  1. I want to convert an asf file into a divx format.. which says I can, but my problem is that when I click video ... then compression... i use the Divx Codec. Which is fine. But then I go to Audio... compression.. and i don't have anything in there with Divx in it. What do I do? I don't know if any of you need more info than that. But if you do let me know.Thank You.

    DivX .avi Encoding Using VirtualDub

FIRST and FOREMOST, you'll need Vdub v1.1 (it's the only one with full asf support) - M$ made Avery remove it out of all the releases after this one...

These settings / Procedure will also work greatly for any .avi or source clip to DivX .avi compressions.

    1. Make sure that you have installed both the DivX Codec and VirtualDub
    2. In VirtualDub, open the source clip.
    3. Under VIDEO, select COMPRESSION, choose the DivX Fast Codec, under the CONFIGURE box to the right, go in and specify 5 Keyframe Interval, and up the speed to 3000 kbps on the bottom slide bar.
    4. Make sure that the VIDEO settings are set for FULL PROCESSING MODE (default)
    5. Next for the Audio, choose CONVERSION, then choose 8000 by 16 Bit, Mono
    6. Again, Under AUDIO, choose COMPRESSION.
    7. Choose MPEG-Layer 3 Codec, then select the format of 8000 by 16 bit, Mono.
    8. Under AUDIO again, make sure that the mode is set to FULL PROCESSING MODE.
    9. Under FILE, choose save .avi and you're rolling......

    Hope this helps 8)

  3. Thank You so much for your help. Also thank you for the step by step instructions. I had no clue to what I was doing.
I have one more question maybe you could help me understand. I wanted to convert one more asf file but when I tried to open it in VDUB I got this error "the asf file is ??? bytes long, but was originally ???? bytes when encoded. It may have been truncated or corrupted. open file anyway?"
If I click yes.. just to see what would happen, I get a weird graph type screen and in this box : Estimated Call Stock, I get "Could not open debug resource file" Is there anyway of fixing this or is it garbage? I mean the file plays fine so I know its not corrupted in play wise. Thank You Again.

  4. Just one slight correction, I believe that Vdub 1.3c was the last version with ASF support (that s the one I use for asf conversions and it works fine).

Make sure to read thouroughly through the sections on installing and using frameserving in vdub, it s not that easy.

    Cheers
