Copying and editing dvd

I have read all the articles relating to the Video_RM dir and using DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW. Just trying to do the following: Kid assigned overseas. I send him dvd of TV shows. Have a LiteOn LVW-5005XS and LVC-9006. Want to record the TV shows in 3 hour mode to a RW disk. Put it in my computer which has a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-831S and edit out the commercials. Then burn it back to a DVD+RW or DVD-RW on my PC then copy it using the LiteOns, and send it to him. Do not want to do any exotic editing. I have burned +RW and -RW dvds on the LiteOn and all come out with Video_RM and Video_TS directories. I do not understand all the technical side of the dvd empire. I would like to reburn the edited TV shows back in the same format that the LiteOns created. If someone can understand this insanity that I have written and can offer me the path as how to accomplish this I would appreciate the help.

Tmpgenc dvd author, select add dvd video to add video from your recorded dvds, edit, author and last burn.
