  1. I use TDA1.5 or TDA3 to create my DVDs right now. TDA 1.5 lets me set up a basic menu with 5 titles per motion menu page as an example. That part is fine. When going to the next menu page, some discs may have 4 or 5 pages, What I'd like to do is have the menu page with the motion thumbnails still playing flip like turning a page in a book.

I saw something similar in a Madonna video years ago. It was a photo albumn and as every page was flipped the old pictures kept playing and the new ones coming to view were playing too. By playing I mean her singing the song as different backgrounds. I can't seem to remember the song title, something about the womens baseball league that existed for a while as I remember it. As you may have guessed I like VH1 Classic.

I am on a budget of somewhere between nil, nothing and very little. So if it can't be done affordably and that means low budget as it is just something for my own and family viewing, then Oh well.

    Thanks

Sorry to tell you, but I don't believe it can be done for nothing. It would have to be done as a transition between menu pages, and many editors have similar transitions. You would have to create all your menu pages to ensure something close to seamless. You will never get completely seamless transitions because of the nature of the DVD menu structure, in the same way you cannot get continuous audio across menu pages.

The only product that might have a page turn plugin and is free is WAX2 from Debugmode.

Seemless is possible when they are static .

But throw motion menu thumbnails , and audio into the mix , and you have a new bag to handle which will never be precise or appear as seemless .

    Free ?

    Wax2

I was working on video clips going all over the place in wax , but currently I dont have access to all of the transitions from wax2 , under win 2000 nt to recall if page curl / flip was available.

Blender , yes , for free , but what a pain in the never region to explain to someone else on how to do it .
it involves surface mapping to 3d object face ... what fun , when it works .

Then the audio matchup begins ...

Slide show movie maker has one , which can be included , just a bit more editing , but only good for static menu needs .

    Commercial

Ulead video studio , 7se , 8se , 9se in ebay dirt cheap will do it , dont forget to grab the patch's for which ever version is used (xp broke 7se multi segment spit) , (8se had filter issues under xp) , even though I never had that issue .

Its a project I have been working on for the last 3 months , and its getting closer to completion ... be happy when its off my pc , and its noted as "not for newbies" .

    ----

It is entirely possible to do it using freeware , and write up a guide related to the methods used and the reasons as to why its done , but , because it would be a very long guide , anyone just starting would be lost even before they begin .

Ulead video studio 8se or 9se from ebay would be the easiest starting point for you to use and your project would be completed reasonably quickly for what you want , all in one product .

When I said "It is entirely possible to do it using freeware" , remember I am not talking about precision or seemless , but close .

  4. You just jogged my memory that the Hauppauge gizmo I bought to go with XP MCE might have a version of that which I didn't install. Or I could go to ulead and download their trial version.

Thanks for the suggestions. It isn't that I mind spending money it is more like sometimes I have ti wait til it is there. Car just cost me $175 parts/labor/and towing in May. There went my splurge money.

Edit: is there a standard name for the feature ? I'd also be interested in such a feature for slide shows. I suspect it would be easier for a slide show program?

It is a just a a transition. Some programs call is a Page Curl, or a Page Turn. I have also seen it referred to as Corner Curl or a Corner Roll. Most editors and slideshow programs have some variation on it, although I think it is over-used in many cases.
