    Hey Guys,

I followed the great guide by manono, it works perfect for me except only one thing, the button hovering effect which for me in my case is become yellow is lost

I used the bmp still image menu background(I wanted to use motion one, but the extract vob file is black pretty small(171KB) and only thing moving is the yellow hovering effect, and extracted file can't be played by any player, so I think it's the caee of still menu)

I followed the guide export the menu and color scheme, and after finish, import both of them back in, But still not work?

    Any idea?

  2. If you're making the motion menu into a still menu, then just do the replace step using the Edited BMP. Doing it that way makes the whole process very easy and you can follow The Easy Way method as described at the very bottom of the guide. Nothing has to be exported or imported.

Manono, I just tried the The Easy Way in your guide, it works, the hovering effect(the character become yellow) appear!

But as you can see, the old yellow English words is still there, Can I take it off and leave only the dot on the left become yellow or make the yellow English word to Chinese?

BTW The Easy Way is totally rock! save a lot of time and elegant!

  6. Well, at least one problem is solved. Good Going!

You'll notice that in the example I used in the guide I didn't try to replace the Japanese characters with English words, but added the English words above the original Japanese ones. One reason to do it that way is to keep from having the problem you're now having. If you can read the Subpic file you extracted doing it the long way (in Step 2, the Demuxing part, where you get the SUP file), you'll see that the subpic includes both the dot and the English words.

Maybe the easiest way to achieve what you want is by using DVDSubEdit. Go 'File->Open Full Domain' and open the VTS_0X_0.VOB that contains the menu. Usually X=1, but not always. Then scroll and find the menu whose subpic you want to edit and go 'File->Save Current Subpic as BMP'. If it's blank, go back to the program and check the box 'Ignore Transparency' over on the right and then try again. That should give you a BMP with a single background color with the dots and a bunch of English writing in a different color. Erase the English writing by covering it with exactly the same color as the rest of the background. That part is important. Then save it as a 4-bit color BMP. That's also important. That is, the final edited BMP should be the same size (same filesize, in KB) as is the original BMP. My NTSC ones are 169 KB. Then go back to DVDSubEdit and 'File->Replace Current Subpic With BMP file' and give it the one you edited. Unless you either erase the writing or write over the writing using the same color, or if you save it as 8 or 16 bit color, you're liable to crash DVDSubEdit. Finally, 'File->Save all modifications'.

And the very easiest way is still to just write the Chinese words above or below the original English language words. Good luck.

Problem solved!, so the hovering effect actually a subtitle stream in the menu vob file! BTW is there any tool to convert the modified bmp to .sup file,

    Thanks again manono!

  8. You're welcome. And congratulations!

I know of no way to convert a BMP directly to SUP. For one thing, a SUP file has timing information that the BMP doesn't. A BMP can be converted to SST (which includes a separate text file with the additional information), which can then be used in Muxman (free) or Scenarist (very expensive) to create the Menu VOB, and then the subpic can be extracted from that as a SUP file (using PGCDemux, as you already know). Kind of a round about way to get a SUP file, though.

Maybe someone else knows of a more elegant solution.
