  1. This is my first attempt to convert from AVI to SVCD and use a number of the tools detailed on this web site.

I have created an AVI file from Premier and can look at that file using VirtualDub. When I attempt to open it using TMPGEnc I get an error. I have loacted the following note and am attempting to follow it

If TMPGEnc gives you an error message when opening AVI, DivX,ASF,SMR,NAV be sure that you have installed the DivX Codec(both DivX 3.11 and 4 codecs) and also try with the Kristal Studio Pack codecs. If that does not work try to use the old TMPGenc 12a. If that does not either work try to change the settings in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow and increase the priority to 1 and try open the video.

I have downloaded the Divx 3.11 codecs and installed as per the instructions. however it told me I had a newer version of a file i3codeca.acm (so I didn't install) I still get the same error but the error message is covered by a second message signifying closedown of TMPGEnc.

When I go to virtual Dub it says I have hacked DivX Codecs and lists soem codecs.

I then went to the next stage to install Kristal which the instructions say

    - Delete all old version DivX Codecs with the control panel (Add/Del).
    - Execute Install.exe.

Do I need to and, if so, how do I perform the delete of the DivX Codecs?

Am I heading in the right direction?

    Thanks in anticipation Steve

  2. I suggest you install the other pack of codecs that the guide says. This worked for me. I also could not use TMPGEnc to convert some AVI files, but I followed the installation codecs from teh guides and it worked.

  3. Where can I find a site telling me in detail the BEST settings to use for TMPG for Mpeg2. I would like a walkthrough of this program.
