How do I animate drawing a line with After Effects?

Anyone know how to do it? Like animating handwriting or something like that?

Most often, this is done by:

1. Making a layer that has the fully drawn line.
2. Making a mask of that same line.
3. Making a wipe effect that "unmasks" it backwards. IOW, it's hidden, but the invisibility is progressively erased.
