  1. Is it true that the Pioneer DVR112 writer cannot set the book type to DVD-ROM when burning +R disks? - or - is there a firmware update to fix that issue? Pioneer tech support could not tell me over the phone, and there is nothing on their Web site about it.

I just bought an LG GSA-H54N writer, which unfortunately won't run under Win98se (Both, the LG tech guy confirmed that, and the Nero disk included gives an error message that Win98 is not supported). The store where I bought the LG writer only has the Pioneer DVR112 as an alternate exchange.

    Thanks for any info!

you will have to crossflash the PIONEER 112D to the 112L drive to enable bitsetting to dvdrom for DVD+R media. in order to do this you'll have to use hacked firmware from "THE DANGEROUS BROTHER'S website and then flash the drive using the buffalo firmware. Check the PIONEER FORUM at Cdfreaks.com if you need more info.

Here's the link from Koba's signature for the buffalo firmware as well as all the instructions on how to crossflash. You'll have to use "THE DANGEROUS BROTHER'S" firmware first. Also using these hacked firmwares will void the original PIONEER warranty. I've crossflashed my retail 112D with no problems.

Also I've cross flashed 2 Pioneer 111D OEM drives with no problems.
