    Hello.

I'd like to convert my videos to watch them on my new Zen.

    How to?

    I've read this ffmpeg's command:
    ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vcodec rawvideo -pix_fmt rgb24 -r 15 -acodec adpcm_ima_wav -s 128x96 output.avi

but ?id like to use a GUI like ffmpegX...any ideas???

    Thanks in advance,
    Marco

I think the Zen supports MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 SP (AVI) (DivX 4, DivX 5, XviD), WMV-9, MJPEG, so I don't see why one would use "rawvideo"/"adpcm IMA", resulting in 20x larger files that can't be played correctly by many desktop players, have crappy sound, and which I didn't find listed as being supported.

Have you tried just encoding to XviD?

"Video format unsupported", it says to me

Creatives provides a software CD which contains a video-conversion program. Just a problem: it just runs on Windows.

If the specs listed here are accurate, http://www.pcworld.com/product/specs/id,28995-c,mp3players/specs.html

it seems that, like many of its ilk, it doesn't support many of the familiar video formats. These little players usually support a ton of audio formats, but only one or two semi-proprietary video formats, like amv or smv. No Mac software exists to transcode into those formats, as far as I'm aware, so if that's what your player needs, you're SOL on the Mac. You may be stuck using a Windows machine to transcode. That's what I am forced to do on my Kaser "MP4" video player, for example.

    Yes I think so.

The ffmpeg's hack in the first post works anyway...

My Zen could only read AVi uncompressed buy its own Win program...the bad is that videos become very huge

    1 movie 1h 30 = 1.16 GB

Wow! No wonder that the advertising literature for that player emphasizes "short clips!"

I'm glad that you found a method that works, but I imagine that you won't be watching too many movies on that device...

  8. Is there a particular reason to buy something like this instead of video iPod?

    Only the price.

    269 Euro vs. 90 Euro
It's not a little difference for me.

Huh, and it has FM Radio which I use very much (+50 Euro for iPod)

I know that this doesn't help you, but I purchased a 4GB Kaser player for about $50 US. It plays many audio formats, but only plays smv video. For a couple of weeks after buying it, I had all of my old spare Windows machines running round the clock to transcode movies into smv. A typical feature length movie gets squeezed down to about 250MB, so I can load about 15 movies on it. With such a small screen, you aren't going to watch many movies before eyestrain forces you to stop, but for the price, I can't complain.

269 Euro = 30GB IPod - 640x480 h.264 or mp4 video with AAC audio, music, podcasts, audiobooks, photos, TV shows, movies, videos (Up to 40 hours), games, notes, contacts, video out etc..
90 Euro = 1GB ZEN, 128x96, FM radio, not compatibile with Mac

    I think you overpaid big...

I know this is not helpfull at all, I just wondered what makes you to buy ZEN...Anyhow I think you should use ffmpeg binary commands until some GUI showed up...

I know that iPod is another world...

But I couldn't pay 269 euro for an MP3 player!!!

I would have bought an iPod, if Apple had built an entry level model like Zen...
