When I backup some movies I notice that the backup dvd's will contain pauses in the movie. I check on the original and it plays flawlessly. I check the dvd's for scratches, most do not have any. I use AnyDVD with DVD Decrypter and the software states that operation was performed properly. I have updated all software and hardware copmponents.
Any suggestions are appreciated. THANKS!!

dadbackup,
If by "pauses" you mean that the video stops or breaks up, and then continues, the most likely source of the problem would be the media you're using. Just to make sure, if you post a burn log from DvdDecrypter, we can see exactly what the media code is, and also see any potential problems during the burn.
Welcome to VideoHelp. -
Maybe its your media and maybe it's your burn speed. What speed are you using and what type of dvd's?

This is very common with titles such as alien vs predator , xmen - original , up the creek , and many more .
Some are multiangled titles , and some include alternative endings , which are mixed up into the actual included title , and it is these that cause the glitches which appear later .
Get hold of "up the creek" if you want to see how they went about this , its a joke .
There is absolutely nothing wrong with your burn , but becarefull when it comes to dvd+r .
Dvd+r should be left to making backups for GAME CONSOLES ONLY , as many dvd home players do not handly + media .
A: Rip dvd with dvdfab or use the pls2 plugin for pgcedit in conjunction with dvddecrypter .
B: When successfull , in either method used , launch pgcdemux .
Check folder where content was ripped to for 1 gig files .
Play the first vob with same id .
You are looking for the very first vob that shows the start of the movie .
Remember that id .
Go back to pgcdemux , and load the ifo that has that same id .
Set a new folder for output .
For aliens vs predator .
Look at dvd cover , for pal , it has 15 chapters .
This title will list 3 titles included .
Open the sellector , and choose the title showing 15 chapters .
Sellect demux video , the other options should have been auto , make sure chapter.txt is checked .
Rip the guts out of it and wait .
C :
Open vobedit , load that vob showing the start of movie , then goto file , audio/video delay .
Write that down if it has delay .
D :
I prefer ifoedit for rebiulding the title for those source files ripped by pgcedit .
Run ifoedit , sellect author dvd (up , top , middle) .
Load video .
Load audio (sellect it) , then enter audio delay , and language .
Load other audio , and apply above notes .
Load subtitles , using the same technique as for audio .
Load chapters.txt
Author to folder of choice .
Hit "get vts sectors"
Save both new ifos shown to same folder as output .
E :
Open original title in vobblanker , replace main title with the new generated title .
F :
You may need to fixup some nav commands related to removed content , using pgcedit .
Or
Burn the newly generated title straight to dvd-r at 4x , and enjoy without menu . -
Wow, I did not expect so many responses.
Vegasbud, I was able to obtain the DVD media code that I'm currently usinf to be MXL RG03, a Maxell 4.7GB DVD -R disc. However, I have not saved any of the logs, but I can say that I have not had many erros using DVD Decrypter.
Other info: I'm using a Plextor PX-760A drive with the latest firmware of 1.06. I just upgraded the firmware from the original that came with the drive as a suggestion from the Newbie post in this forum. The firmware change made a radical increase in write speeds as prior to that I was only achieving 0.8X write speeds. Now it depends on DVD Decrypter as I use the MAX setting for writing.
Buttzilla, I use any type of DVD - R discs and I purchase from meritline.com the DVD - R DL from Ritek Ridata that they sell. So far backing up movies that are greater than 4.7GB I have not seen any problems. I also use the MAX writing speed from DVD Decrypter.
I hope this info helps.

The pauses could be caused by too many taxing activities on your CPU. When burning a DVD, you may want to shut down any programs you have currently running.
Two questions:
Whats your processor?
Whats your RAM? -
Pinetop,
I have a 2.66GHz Celeron with 2GB RAM. By the way, prior to making or burning the image I run EndItAll to kill all processes except the ones I need for the system to run.

dadbackup,
When you say "...I use any type of DVD - R discs..." and "...I have not seen any problems...", you're not counting the reason for your original post - "...the backup dvd's will contain pauses in the movie...". There's one way we can tell if it's the media...the MXLRG03 media you're currently using is listed as 1st class media at nomorecoasters.com, so do any of those disks have a problem? You could also try checking the media id/code for the disks that display the problem, and see if there's a pattern.
Do you use the "Verify" function as part of your burning process? A burn can complete without the burning program reporting errors, and still have data errors. If a burned disk verifies without errors, you know the data was written accurately.
I hope it was a typo when you said you use -RDL media for dual layer burns. It's a really bad idea to use anything but +RDL for dvd-video, and only using the Verbatim +RDL will ensure that you have the least trouble, and the best burns. I can't remember ever having a single coaster with Verbatim +RDL. -
VegasBud,
I'm having problems with the MXLRG03 media. Eventhough, DVD Decrypter says that the ISO read of the image was created successfully. In addition, DVD Decrypter also says that the ISO write of the image was created successfully and verified successfully.
On the -RDL perspective, I have not encountered any issues using either Verbatim's discs or Ritek's Ridata discs. I like to use the -RDL discs as this will play in the car's DVD player, while the +RDL does not. I have read that the -RDL has the greatest compatibility on all systems.
DadBackup -
Burn at lower speed may fix problem, but most likely it's the media. I have same issues with Ridata media, but same recordings from same burner play flawlessly with Sony D21 media.
-
Everyone,
Thanks for your suggestions!! I will review info from nomorecoasters.com for selecting media. In addition, I will try different write speeds to get best outcome.
