I have a number of files that I have converted from mpeg2 to wmv to decrease the size. The original mpeg2 files import and edit fine into Sony Vegas 7.0e, but when I import the wmv files there are audio gaps through out the video. When I play them in windows media player there are no audio gaps, it just happens when I import them into Sony Vegas. Anyone know of a fix for this problem?

As using the original MPG files would be the obvious choice for further edits, is the question about importing WMV just academic, or do you have a particular reason for using the lower q files as input in Vegas?

plain and simple - WMV is not a editing format, is not standardized (many different versions and methods to encode), and a heap of other reasons....

if you can hear the audio - you might just want to record it via a "record what i hear" type of program -- and import that into vegas

    mat.hogberg:
I have a number of mpeg2 files that are each about 1.4 gb, that adds up to a lot so I just wanted to encode them in a lower quality so I could archive them and maybe come back to edit them later. I tried xvid and some other formats that did not want to import into Vegas at all. That's the reason I used wmv was because it imported nicely into Vegas but then I noticed the audio problems.

Since wmv is not a good editing format are there any suggestions on a program that will lower the mpeg2 quality into about a 400MB file that will still import well into vegas?

1.4 gb files are really small .. how about just burn to a disk ?

because anything smaller will both, lose a lot of quality and be hard to edit

vegas will import divx and xvid -- though those are also not really editing formats (though better than wmv in this case) .

if you do use wmv, do not use vbr audio
