Something really bizarre is going on right now with my DVD player. For some reason, The Natural 's menus are showing in Japanese. I thought there was a problem with the DVD so I went back to Best Buy and we tested it out and everything was fine. All the menus were in standard English. I checked my settings and everything is correct so I don't have a clue how this could actually be happening. I have the Samsung HT-Q70. The only thing I could think is that I used the unlock code on this website to make it region free. I still don't understand how a normal region 0 dvd can play that way though. If anyone could help, I'd really appreciate it.

There is nothing wrong. The Natural included Japanese menu's. You can use Vobblanker to rip them out. Believing yourself to be secure only takes one cracker to dispel your belief.

But this is a store bought dvd. I would assume that using Vobblanker is if I want to make a copy. Regardless, isn't there a way to turn them off? Why are they defaulting to that?

The store bought Region 1 Natural ( Directors Cut) had Japanese menus as well as English ones. This is nothing to be concerned about. I used Vobblanker to rip the content out that I did not want.Originally Posted by DonGallego28

Make sure that the default language for the player is set to English. You will still see Japanese menu's though unless you remove them.Believing yourself to be secure only takes one cracker to dispel your belief.

I'm just confused as to why I can't change it to English. How do I change the default settings on my dvd player? From what I understand, it's already set to english for everything....unless I'm doing something wrong. I find it hard to believe that they would include the menus that way without allowing the user to choose.

So there is no way for me to play this DVD in English on my DVD player? I don't want to rip and burn a new copy....nor do I feel like I should.

The default language setting is somewhere in your player menus. If this is set to English then I'm not sure what else you can do with your player. If you put the disc into your PC and play it, what language do you get ? If you get English on your PC then the problem is with your player settings. Read my blog here.

Ok...it does play in English on my cpu. I checked the player settings and everything is set to English but it still plays in Japanese. This must have something to do with me unlocking the region settings on the DVD player. It doesn't seem to happen for any other DVD except this one. Do you know how I could fix the issue?

Also, thanks to everyone for contributing and helping out. I appreciate it.

Setting it to region free has nothing to do with seeing Japanese Menus. As I said before, the discs have Japanese Menu's. I saw them when I ripped the disc. Believing yourself to be secure only takes one cracker to dispel your belief.

Many discs have different language versions of the menus, and decide which to play using the player default settings. If his are set to English, the Japanese menus should not be coming up, even though the exist (something that hasn't been disputed). Read my blog here.

Well they definetly exist. I have no idea what's going on. I guess I'll call Samsung. It's not a big deal since this is the only dvd its ever happened to. I can still watch the movie and I can just guess at what all the other things are.

If this is the only disc that is doing that, then it is not your player settings.Originally Posted by DonGallego28Believing yourself to be secure only takes one cracker to dispel your belief.
