How to play a HD clip on my standalone HD player?

Sorry if this have been asked before. Have read many pages here, but still not found an answer to my question.

A friend of mine has given me a HD video clip, which i want to test with my new HD dvd player and HD tv.

The clip is on my PC, and is a .TS file. (Philips Hd Demo Air show.ts) Its in 1080p format.

I have tried to convert it using software HDTV2MPEG. This gives me a .mpg file, which i have tried to burn to a DVD-RW. But my HD player just refuses to play the clip. no error, just spits the disc out again. Also tried to copy the .TS file on the disk, same result..

How do i go about and put this clip on a CD/DVD and watch it on my standalone HD player? I really want to test my system's HD capabilities.

My HD system is a Harman Kardon HS 500 system. Specs can be read here:

The DVD Player is not a HD dvd player. It can't play 720/1080i/p video, it can just upconvert standard video to 1080.

So it simply resizes each videoframe to 720/1080?

In other words, i would have to re-encode the video downto 720x480, and then it will work?

Connect your TV to your PC and use it as a montiro and your PC should be able to play the TS file as it was intended. I don't think you understand the advice you've been given. Basically you've been told to convert the clip to DVD format and then allow your TV or DVD player to upscale it to HD resolutions. You can do this, for sure, but I'd think an easier way is to just use the TV as a PC monitor for playback.

I really don't want to watch any clip on my 19" lcd monitor, when i can watch it on 42" plasma. What i probably not have understood is that real HD players and tv is only sold in the US?

I checked the hd player again and its only hdmi v1.0, which would mean crap quality, even if hd discs could be played.

No, what you have not understood is that I told you to connect the 42" plasma to your PC and use the 42" plasma as a monitor. What is so difficult about that?

Can you point me in a direction(link?) to what kind of cable i should get then? My current video card is a Nvidia Geforce 7800 gtx, which should support hdtv output. My computer is located about 7 meters from the TV, and it would have to go thru a wall.

A friend told me that there is a big difference in cablequality.

I honestly don't know. According to nvidia's homepage, it does not seem HDCP is supported. Is there a software tool that maybe can tell me?

i dont think this clip need HDCP to play.
HDCP is for comercial dvd movies (im not sure tho)

If card is nVidia Gforce 7800GTX, then you should have 2 DVI outputs.

Get a DVI->HDMI adapter cable/box. Move the PC into the room where the TV is (temporarily at least). Hook up. Set PC's resolution to something compatible with the TV. Play the HD clip on a player in full screen mode (not windowed).

That should be it (have I forgotten something?)...

Yes. The possibility that his HD TV won't accept any kind of input from a PC except VGA. My Samsung LCD HD TV is like this. The manual that came with the TV, which he hopefully still has, will tell if this is the case or not. If so, he'll need a DVI to VGA adapter.

What is the TV model?

VGA is likely to be the simplest solution although you can experiment with DVI to HDMI.

Your high def DVD solutions are BluRay or HD DVD formats. These players would probably require direct connection to the HDTV. Most if not all "HD" Receivers won't handle HDCP encryption. There is rumor that some highest end models may work with HDCP but don't count on it.

As you can see this is more complicated than it may seem and the solutions offered aren't fully proven.
