  1. I have just authoured and burned a DVD, it plays perfectly in Cyberlinks Power DVD, but the trouble is, in my set top player the audio goes out of sync, and drops out every few seconds (although the audio on the menu screen plays fine)

At the various stages of production, the authored mpeg2 files played fine, and the authored VOB folder played fine (again via Power DVD) so I am at a loss here

I think it may have something to do with GUI for DVD author having some sort of issues with the frame rate of the menu I have used (apparently if you use music with the still menu picture, there can be problems)

I used ImgBurn to burn the Video-TS folder

Oh and, when in ImgBurn, I navigated to [and selected] the Video-TS folder, should I have selected the 'DVD' folder that contains both the Video-TS and Audio-TS folders? should I have burnt them both?

    Anyone??

Sounds cheap, and cheap is usually nasty where DVD media is concerned. If you have Nero CD Speed or DVD Info Pro you should be able to get the media ID, which can then be used to find out what the discs really are.

  5. Aw crap, according to that site, TESCO use UME Advanced Media Ltd, of which, are classed '4th class'.... out of four, balls

Do you think I'll be able to get my cash back?

Also, and more importantly, going by your expeirience in this area, does it look as though crap disk quality is the issue then

Is TY/Yuden a brand? or do they make the brands of others too? are they the best?

    Good link, cheers

One good source for TY media is http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv The 8X DVD-R discs are about $ .27 each in lots of 100. How much did you pay for the TESCOs? TY is one of the very best brands for DVD-5 media.

The TESCOs DVD's were £4.99 for a pack of ten, I wish I had gone for the TDK ten pack at £14

I was reading on the digitalfaq website (and have since had it confirmed) that http://svp.co.uk/ is the better site to go for in the UK, I think they will get my orders from here on in

Well (and bear in mind I had burnt an NTSC disc) upon closer inspection of the DVD player, I today noticed that it was set to PAL, rather than AUTO or NTSC

    Christ I'm lame LOL

Does anyone know if most DVD playes have auto detection as default?

  12. Hmmm, on a serious note now

Although the disc seems to play, I notice that when fast forwarding (or rewinding) that even though the disc is FFWing or RWing, the on screen picture remains static, it is only when pressing play that the film kicks back in again

Would this be down to the cheapy media?

Man, VCD's never gave me this much ballache LOL, its all fun though

I see http://svp.co.uk/ have the same Taiyo Yudens I linked to for £24.32 for one hundred. I have no idea what that comes to each, but usually you will find the good brands of DVD media are just a small amount more than the cheapest ones. And the quality and dependability will be 100% better.

I'm not sure your media is at fault for the FF and RW problems. It may be related to the encoding method, or the player may not like the media. Some media and some burners and some players are not always compatible with each other. When you do find the right combination for all those, then you should stick with it.

Most PAL players will have PAL, NTSC and Auto. Some older PAL players will read NTSC discs, but will output output pseudo-PAL or PAL60 instead of NTSC. Most NTSC players will only read NTSC discs, so PAL output is a moot point.

FWIW, my LG player sometimes had occasional sync issues with NTSC avi files when in PAL mode. It lives in Auto mode all the time now and no issues at all. Never had it screw up the image because of this though.

    .
This is less and less true these days.
Most of them do PAL now, since most of them are made in China.
