i have a dvd reorder, its a philips dvdr70 and ive had it for about 5 years now (i think) so i am looking at the possibility of upgrading to a new model this summer.
i was wondering if there are any dvd recorders on the market now that can record not just in dvd format, but also in DIVX and/or XVID format?

NO.. bUt take a look at the plextor convertx.. or just convert your recordings on your PC. or record on your PC in divx. Not sure it will ever happen, except maybe smaller personal media players/recorders eg Archos xxxx that will record an incoming video signal into some form of mp4 BUT at low resolution 320x240, which is fine for their smaller screens. Divx is commercial so it could happen with them, but xvid doesnt have that ethos behind it, but also doesnt have any licensing fees. But maybe the fear of future patent claims from microsoft or some other company is stopping them?

The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.
