My DMR-E50 isn't reading disks anymore, will a different Panasonic recorder read the unfinalized disks from my machine?

The same model should for sure. Not sure about different models, though I suspect they would also. If you are shopping at a B&M store, just take a disc with you and check.

I have tested unfinalized disks made on a DMR-ES35V on a ES45V and the new EZ47K. They all play and I have finalized ES35V disks on the EZ47V and those all play on all the units as well. The E50 is quite a bit older than these however.

Clean your laser too. This is something that you should do at least every 2 years.
