Is there any kind of OS X software one can use for playing an AVI or MPEG video and having it generate an image consisting or multiple smaller preview images? Basically, something that takes a screencap every x number of minutes, then assembles those images in to a preview page?

    Let me know,
    Peter

  3. Hi,

This can be done with SimpleMovieX.
If you select all the movie and do Scan Selection, a pane with 16 or 64 thumbnails of the movie taken every x minutes will appear.

To make a picture out of it, just use the Grab application.

Note that I'm the developer of this app.

    Bj,
I have to say that you've come a long way with this app.
And that there are a few features that make it better than
QT Pro ( The Chaptering and Split into movies feature
are catching my eye....), but to keep the cost down
and a better deal than QT Pro,
why not code it to use the open source ffmpeg
engine for MPEG-2 processing, like Visual Hub?
And thus break the dependency on the Mpeg-2 Component?

just a thought...Glad to see continued developement on this app...

  5. Hi, Terryj

Thank you for you interest in SimpleMovieX.
I have an hybrid version of SimpleMovieX that decodes MPEG-2 through the mpeg2dec.
I've had it for more than one year, but never released to the public.
Reason: MPEG-2 licensing. You must pay royalties to a foundation called MPEGLA.

I'll check how VisualHub is doing it, but I think they are paying royalties too.

    Regards, BJ
