  1. I have been batch converting XVIDs and similar to MPEG2 using TMPGENCXP for a while but I now get errors, I am not posting from the PC with the error so cannot give exact messages.

It started when TMPGENC could not recognise Audio lengths so I decompressed using Virtual dub. Then I had a XVID which would fail at 47% or explode my editing software at the same frame.

I updated XVID and solved the above problems, also needed to update DIVX, but now VFAPI I think cannot open the XVIDs so I have to convert to MPEG4 at a high bit rate using VirtualDub, but now that cannot open the sound files.

My bodge which I left running in batch mode was convert video then sound from original file.

So I have a few questions, I will give software details tonight.

    1) VirtualDub cannot decompress the audio (VBR MP3 I think off the top of my head)

    2) TMPGENC XP cannot open the video.

    3) I don't have the disc space to completly decompress all the files.

My level is as follows, experienced at DV and MPEG2 not so much with newer codecs.

Anyway TMPGENXP is updated, XVID is newest version, DIVX updated this morning.

    XP Pro SP2, no viruses.

    1. It can. It's just standard practice to go to uncompressed before encoding to ac3 or mp2 for sync reasons.
    2. Tmpg xpress 3 opens most of what I through at it. Certainly never had a problem with an xvid file.
    3. Well you shouldn't have to!

You can post info about your problem files using mediainfo.
    Installed any codec packs?
