I have an SV2000 DVD recorder and used it the first time yesterday. Recorded two programs to a DVD-RW from my Panasonic AG1980P VCR.
The plan was then to rip the two programs seperately from it then author to DVD-R with my own custom menus. I figured DVD Shrink could do the trick but it pops an error box saying it can't continue because there's no CSS key on the disc. (Now that's a laugh, a DVD ripping app that can't rip a non-encrypted disc!)
When that failed, I took a look at the disc and find it has a VIDEO_RM folder with VIDEO_RM.BUP VIDEO_RM.DAT and VIDEO_RM.IFO files. Really weird is that rather than having two obviously seperate groups of VOB files in VIDEO_TS, one group for each program, is has both programs in one set, but two filenames for each VOB. Ie. VTS_01_1.VOB and VTS_02_1.VOB (five VOBs with two names each). The reported sizes are identical for each name.
Quite obvious that the TOC just has two entries for the same data, fooling Windows into seeing over 8GB of data on a 4.7GB disc. Question is WTF for?
What apps, preferably freeware, will rip the two programs from this disc to two seperate sets of VOB files? From there I'll be fine with authoring a new disc.
I've several more tapes to do and want to get all the software ducks in a row and the workflow figured out so it'll go smoothly.
