Hello there, i'm currently running Windows XP Professional, w/ Service pack 2 on a P4, 3.06ghz machine with 2GB of ram & an Asus MB, i have an Aopen DVD Burner with dual layer capability & it won't allow me to burn dual layer discs. I thought there was a problem with my drive so i purchased a brand new LiteOn DVD Burner with dual layer capability & it does not burn dual layer discs on my computer either.

I loaded up Nero Info Tool to view what the drive is capable of & neither drive shows that it's dual layer compatible even though i KNOW it is.

I have the most updated firmware installed on both drives, i have up to date aspi files & I'm using the same programs/versions my buddy is using. (he installed them on his machine to test them out & they work fine).

I'm using DVD Shrink & Easy DVD Shrink & Nero & they all burn DVD5 discs fine but not DVD9. Both these drives ARE dual layer burners for sure & of COURSE i'm using DVD9 discs....but it doesn't matter what type of disc I use @ the moment because my computer thinks these burners are NOT dual layer compatible when they ARE!!!!

I'm wondering if i'm missing something or what could be causing these drives not to show as dual layer capable in EVERY program i've tried.

The only thing i can think of is that it could be a windows/software issue. The only thing i can think of doing is a format of my machine & a full re-install but that's HOURS of work i really don't wanna have to do, especially if that's not the problem. Any ideas?

Feel free to reply here for others who might be in the same boat as i, but i'd really appreciate a direct email with some suggestions/the solution! I can be contacted [LINK REMOVED]

Thank you in advance for your help!
